Tour Description
Discover some of Hobart’s most wonderful landmarks and then travel back in time to Richmond – one of Australia's oldest and well preserved villages, to discover the secrets and charm of this quaint village that dates back to convict times.
• Discover some of the most significant and beautiful landmarks of Hobart
• Travel in modern comfortable coaches with your friendly driver
• Visit Richmond and all it has to offer as one of Australia’s oldest convict settlements
This unmissable tour departs every day (except Sunday) at 1:10 pm from November to April, and Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from May to October at the Brooke Pier, Hobart with accommodation pickups available on request at designated spots around the city. Travelling with your fellow excitement seekers and your friendly driver in comfortable modern coaches, you’ll set off to peruse some of Hobart’s most significant and remarkable landmarks. You’ll see Sullivan’s Cove – the birthplace of Hobart –, Parliament House, Salamanca Place with its glorious Georgian style warehouses, Constitution Dock, the ABC buildings where this wonderful city’s original sandstone railway station was erected, plus many more interesting sites around this country-style city.
You’ll head out of the city on the Brooker Highway, passing through North Hobart, New Town and the Derwent Entertainment Centre, on your way to Richmond. This unique historical town dates back to the 1920s and – as you travel over Australia’s oldest road bridge – you will be mesmerised by the spectacular little township, set in a backdrop of magnificent scenery. Richmond Gaol is a sight to behold and was ready for its earliest occupants in 1826.
You will have plenty of time to explore the convict-built homes, the small quaint cottages and the classic Georgian mansions that blend and meld to perfection. Even the shopaholics will have their desires sated in this lovely little village, with many unique and sometimes quirky shops and galleries. After enjoying a wonderful saunter in and out of all the nooks and crannies that abound here (or spent all your spare change on a buying expedition), you’ll visit one of the quaint cafés or restaurants for a mouth-watering epicurean feast and an aromatic freshly brewed coffee or tea.
Don’t forget your camera for an exceptional photo opportunity from our specially selected vantage point to get your perfect shot. Then, its back on your coach for a relaxing drive back to Hobart with an arrival time of 5.30 pm, after which, you’ll be dropped back at your original pickup location.
