Tour Description
With pick-up at either the Brooke Street Pier, or from your Hobart accommodation at 9:15 am, you will depart the bustling city of Hobart and set off on your journey in a comfortable, temperature-controlled coach. As you head towards the majestic Mount Wellington from its foothills, you'll have full views of this amazing, often snow-capped sentinel mountain, but it's the little things you'll encounter along your journey to the mountain's peak that will really make your day! We stop at the Sumit for approximately 30mins, and you can undertake a short guided wailk with your driver-guide. On the way down from the summit we make another stop at the halfway point, known as The Springs, where we take a short 15min walk.
St. David's Park, which is one of the area's first burial grounds, dating back to 1804, is a stunning mixture of lush natural beauty and ornamental architecture that offers amazing opportunities for photography. More historic charm can be found at the Anglesea Barracks, the location of the oldest army facility in the country. As you continue on your tour, you'll see some absolutely lovely natural scenery, as well as man-made structures, such as the quaint cottages, admirable Georgian houses, charming pubs and boutiques that can be found at Battery Point. Then, you'll see Australia's oldest brewery in Cascade Valley, The Cascade Brewery, with its beautiful Woodstock gardens.
The pleasant little mountain town of Ferntree has a friendly old-world charm, while the amazing Organ Pipes rock formation offers yet another ideal photography opportunity. At the peak of Mount Wellington, you'll breathe in the cool, fresh air, see the lush alpine vegetation and perhaps even frolic in the snow, but the views are the real winner here. Sweeping scenery overlooking the city, its ports and river, verdant rolling fields and many of the sites you visited on the way up are your rewards. These are views you will never forget!
Your final stop for the day will be the interesting Cascades, Female Factory, an historical 19th-century women's prison with a rich, fascinating past. Learn about the lives of the women who were imprisoned here and see the conditions that they had to live in, often for crimes that would be considered very minor these days. At the end of your tour, you'll be returned to the Brooke Street Pier (no transfers on return) at around 11:30am.
